When you have an official or game location where the address indicates an error and the system is unable to identify the latitude and longitude, there could be several reasons.
First, double check the address, including the spelling of the street and city as well as the zip/postal code.
If the error remains, you can manually enter the latitude and longitude for the location.
Steps to manually add latitude and longitude information for an official / location:
- Locate the official / location on the directory
- Click the address
- Click the Google Maps icon
- Optionally, change to Satellite View on Google Maps
- Place your mouse pointer over the spot on the street near the entrance to the location (or in front of the official's home).
- Click the right mouse button.
- A menu will open with the latitude and longitude showing.
- You can copy these numbers by clicking them....but it will copy them together, with both numbers. You'll need to separate them before pasting them into Reftown.
- Note the two numbers.
- You only need 4 digits after the decimal point.
Example: If you have 43.1598745465, 43.1599 is good enough. Even if you round the last digit incorrectly, it is good enough.
- Return to Reftown
- Edit the location/official directory entry
- Click the grey bar labeled "Latitude/Longitude" to expand that section
- Insert the two numbers
- The latitude, for the USA will generally be between 25 and 50
- The longitude for the USA will be NEGATIVE and between -125 and -65
Hawaii and Alaska will be outside of these ranges.
- Click Update
